SpecSavers are a franchised company, I had a problem with them a couple of years ago (not debt related), Tell the lady you spoke to that she legally has to inform you of the directors names and write to them direct, most will not be happy about the fact that 1. one of their staff was rude to a customer and 2. someone forgot to charge you and therfore was costing the Director money.

Basically she was trying to cover up a mistake - it may well have been her mistake and she is scared of what the directors may say.

When I compalined I got my glasses at 1/2 price, as it was 2 for 1 anyway I ended up getting them for 1/4 of the original price - it is worth writing the letter.

  • Just seemed a little strange thats all with it being over such a long period of time. I would pay it-she has in theory had a 2 year grace period for items she has received and not paid for.

I absolutely agree that Specsavers are being unreasonable, and I hope you manage to find a satisfactory solution BUT I also hope that this incident teaches your GF that it really does pay to check her statements regularly.

If she carries on ignoring her statements how would she know if there had been fraudulent transactions on her account? Bank errors? Unfair/unjustified charges? Cheques written from her account but not paid in by the payee, only to be paid several months later when she's forgotten about it and is already at her overdraft limit?

When you're on a low income it's doubly important to be aware of where all your money is, cos as your GF has unfortunately discovered, poor organisation can come back to bite you when you least expect it and can least afford it.
