Unwanted xmas gifts

Hi all -

Tomorrow I plan on attempting to take back some unwanted xmas gifts, most of which are from Boots, one from The Body Shop. If I go in with no receipt, but with all items completely intact, am I likely to get a complete refund or just a gift card/credit note? Also, if I am given a refund, will it be the price of the item in the sale or the normal price?

Thanks a lot !

  • hi tilly, not sure were you stand on returning toiletery/cosmetics type goods, but i think most stores wouldnt give you a refund on cosmetics. if you take goods back without the receipt you will only get the last known price, so if they have been reduced you will only get back the sale price. In my experience most stores give gift cards if you dont have a receipt, some will only let you exchange.but much depends on the individual store as they do not have give refunds/exchanges for items that are unsuitable
dont wait for your boat to come in, get in a dingy and row out to it!!!

oops, looks like you might be a little disappointed!
They will usually exchange things at the current price without a reciept- Just a few days back I returned a Sanctuary candle and got the amount credited to a giftcard (the full amount as this was not in the sale)

However Boots start their 75% sale tomorrow so, if you have any of their Christmas items then you will only get an exchange at the current value- considerably less then what would've been paid for them. Unless you have regular stock items or electricals, I don't think these are in the sale.

seriously? I would keep these gifts and recycle them for the following year for other gifts, the money you get back from them is likely to be around 25% of the actual cost as its now so late into the sales, it may have been different 2 weeks ago, unfortunatly not now. They may be more appreciated by others in the comming year or even next christmas.

I very much doubt you would get refunds as they sound like toilettry products etc, I totally agree with the other poster, recycle them for bday presents,
    What about ebaying them?

Thanks all, I'm going to ebay them. However I've got a 100ml Britney Spears curious perfume and on the boots website it says it's £38.17, is it worth trying to take perfume back if it's completely unopened?

I've always been able to take perfumes back to boots, however they won't give you money - they will give you a giftcard with the amount on it.

I quite like the smell of that particular perfume anyway :o
