  • Hi All,

Ordered on 5th feb (32"), recieved yesterday to replace a 28" CRT Thomson.

As a piece of kit it looks supreme, but I'm not overly impressed with the picture quality. DVD through S-Video and or SCART is pretty good, but my main concern is my SKY+ which is connected through the SCART RGB socket. Some pictures are OK, but most, inc BBC1 esp, are not that sharp.

Can anyone comment on why this may be, or are LCD not as good as CRT ? I bought on a bit of a whim, and to be honest its heading back unless I can get the picture to improve.

I hope you don't mind me using this board for this question, but let me know if I should move it. For reference I am using cheap SCART cables and I have set the SKY+ settings to allow RGB and "control through SCART" whatever that means. I don't know if this is right or whether the SCART cables are RGB compatible - if that makes any sense.

Any suggestions gratefully received, if not it's back to Freemans with that baby ! Which is a shame, it looks wicked in my front room.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Hmmm i ordered around 5th -10th the 26" samsung but still not received:( wonder when it will come or any stock updates?!
  • wildey_saver,

Yes the RGB option you've set is the one you need to get the best picture quality out of a scart connection. Lots off people feel like you and think the screen looks rough round the edges when switching from LCD from CRTs and are quite suprised because they expect the image quality to be smoother, it actually is a lot sharper because they are much higher definision, clearer and show much more of the detail. LCDs only really make the most of a good digital high quality source. Some pictures might not seem as sharp to your eye because the definition of the screen is actually a lot higher (and hence sharper) than your used to, lcd images on a low res input dont have soft edges (so it appears a crisp flow) like it appears on lower res CRTs, they will show virtually every edge of the image if your hooking it upto a standard lower definition source, so might appear 'bitty' on image edges. The LCD will come into its own if you ever hook it upto High Definition source via HDMI, i.e. a HDMI DVD player or the new service SKY is launching soon, if its hooked up to a standard analogue input the image may appear as bitty as hell, as said they are really suited to higher definition digial sources. Just wait until the day you hook this baby upto a proper HD source, the quality will knock your socks off.

    Sal :)

CCFC If you read the prevoius posts there are others as well as me who have ordered thir LCD's back in Jan (Jan 27) so why do you expect your set to arrive before the others who ordered way before you ?

@ wildey_saver.....you wont get a picture better than your old tv, LCDs using normal (old) signals give a very poor pixelated picture, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I know several people who ordered these sets and have been bitterly dissapointed in the picture.

My advice, wait a few months, the prices will come down, sky will have HDTV out by then and then make a choice.

Most people seemed to have jumped in too early with no HD input, and tbh without that these LCDs are rubbish.

Thats a bit harsh - he was only wondering when he will get his. I didn't see any mention of an attempt to jump above you in the queue if thats what you're worried about...

From the look of it these come through in batches every couple of weeks.

So people who ordered around the 27th (for 26' IDTV) probably have theirs. For someone ordering on the 5th they would be hoping the next batch in a couple of weeks covers that date or it could be a 4 week wait.
