Made Redundant - what am i entitled to?

Hi,

I was made redundant in November, I didnt think that i was entitled to job seekers allowance if i had a redundancy payment however i now gather that i am. I have a few questions if anybody can help.

- Will they back date the payment to November?

- What am i entitled to? I live alone in a rented flat, am i entitled to help towards my rent and bills etc?

Where do i go from here, who should i call?

Any help would hugely be appreciated! I have never been unemployed before and its all rather daunting!

Thanks

xx

  • How much do have by means of savings? Including whats left of your redundancy pay. If less than 16,000 you can get some help from the council with rent and council tax.

As for backdating you havn't a chance in hell. The onus is on you to contact the jobcentre and ask not guess you see. You can try when you put your claim in but you need a letter from God before it'll be accepted on the grounds of I didn't know sorry.

To put the claim call 0800 055 6688. You need to have any information about past jobs/tenancy agreement/savings details/bank details and info if you've been to uni lately. It's not essential but makes things quicker for you and the advisor :)

    Any other questions just ask.
