Endowment mortgage sold by solicitor

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who is not keen on persuing a mis-sold endowment policy. He thinks it's not worthwhile because he was sold the policy by a solicitor and has been told that mis-sold policies by solicitors are treated differently than ones sold by a financial advisor.
Does anyone have any experience of successfully being awarded compensation for an endowment policy sold by a solicitor.

Solicitor sales are a nightmare ( thats just in england, even worse in scotland) they always reject the complaint and it is then referred to the law society. They refer back to CBR, conduct of business rules and do you know, not one case has led to the solicitor being found to have broken these rules.
Even where the solicitor in question says 'I lost my paperwork in a flood' but can't remember when it was, obviously this was just a common everday occurence you would forget, like buying a sandwich, the law society backs them up and says that without evidence to show they broke CBR the case is closed.0
