(Sorry if I post this twice, new to this!)
Myself and my husband have been struggling with fairly hefty debts on credit cards etc. for the last twelve months. We have reached agreements with the majority of our lenders or otherwise we have been issued with CCJ's which we are managing. We have been paying off what we can when we can with our outstanding debts.
All was appearing to be fine until we received a letter from Connaught Collections on Saturday stating that my husband has a debt or around £3500 with Barclays which they have issued a statutory demand for (we have no record of having ever received this). They are now apparently going to petition him for bankruptcy. My husband is serving in the Navy and currently away from home so I am trying to sort this on my own. I have no record of ever receiving anything from them and this is the first time I have ever actually heard of them.
I am just after some advice one what to do to try and sort this out. We are in negative equity on our house, have nothing of any value and have other debts that I would have considered were more of a priority than this. How can we try and avoid this bankruptcy? Any advice thankfully received.

hi, you need to ring one of the debt advice line straight away .Also ring the court that this statutory demand has been issued through . There should be someone there with advice , need to get it on hold as your husband is serving away . Others will be on shortly with more advice . Also I am sure there will be a support officer your can contact with the Navy .0

Let's stick to answering this thread.
You do need to talk to one of these debt charities urgently. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
It may be that Connaught have issed a SD, it may be that they are just threatening to do so, so can you type out the whole sectence in which they mention SD and bankruptcy. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
