Removing tomato based stain from PVC tablecloth - Any tips?

  • im replacing mine as it is stained but also has gone weird where the corners of the table are..have gone for brown with green leaves this time as might show the stains less

    I (like many others I'm sure) have been caught by a tomato stain on my brand new PVC tablecloth and was quite annoyed to discover that the "Wipe Clean" material can be damaged by such a staple... Moreover, my stain was left overnight...

    I was dubious about the "Dettol mould and mildew remover spray" idea mentioned on this thread (I tried the other Dettol Multi-surface Cleaner without any success), but stumbled upon it at Tesco today and saw it has a bleaching agent so thought I'd try anyway... It really works! Took a few applications, then without even rubbing the stain it just disappeared. Thanks for the posters on this thread who mentioned it, I got my tablecloth back to normal : )

    Thanks for this tip. I recently threw away a pvc tablecloth with some tomato stains on. Wish I had kept it now!

    I find sunlight bleaches tomato stains out of clothes, haven't tried with my PVC tablecloths but maybe hanging it up in the sun might work?

  • I've just tried the mildew remover idea, and it works a treat. Leave it on for 15 mins and the tablecloth is back to perfect condition. Thanks for the tip.

    Can't say this will work for a PVC tablecloth but definitely works on vinyl flooring; mix bleach 50:50 with warm water, use a lint free white cloth (I find a piece of old bed sheet works well) soak cloth in mix and smooth onto stain. Cover with a large dish if you have any animals. Leave overnight and next morning the stain is gone.
