e-accounts: any recommendations?

Morning allI am thinking about opening an e-savings account so that I can transfer any leftover money into it at the end of each month so I am not tempted to think of it as mine and just spend it. I really need to be paying more off my debts each month than I am at the moment! Are they all the same or is one better than any of the others? I would not need anything fancy. Thanks

I'm hearing great things about the Alliance & Leicester e-savings account, so much so that I opened one recently. Took barely any time at all, and now I'm all set up, plus it had one of the best interest rates going at the time (and no doubt still does) at 5% (this was before the most recent interest rate drop, but after the other few, so very good!).
In fact, just went and checked (http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/savings/esaver.aspx?ct=jan09rfshomepagemiddle) and it's now 3.6% which I reckon is still pretty darn good given the base rate!
Hope that helps...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I opened the AL esaver a fortnight ago too. did it through quidco and should get £68 cashback so make sure you check out the cashback sites before opening x0

Thanks both for replying so promptly. My "thanks" button is not working so I will see what's going on and thank you both properly later.I have never used Quidco although I registered quite a while ago. Is it easy to use? It it £68 just for opening the account? Sounds fab if so.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Last time I looked A&L was no longer on Quidco, or at least not offering the good cashback

SuzySu, what about an account with your bank into which your salary goes. The transfer would be instant and if you were stuck, it might be useful to have it to hand.
Bank to bank transfers do sometimes take a few days.
You could open another e-account and use that also, but keeping a cushion in your other online account.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I opened the A&L eSaver in August - I got it through Quidco but the Cashback was £20 and not £68 so well done to those who got the £68 cashback thats brilliant!
I had a look last night because was considering opening one for my sister, to put her babysitting money in (she babysits for me while I work) but it seems to have disappeared from Quidco!

Just wanted to say that I have a current account with Lloyds TSB and I have set up a savings account online recently. This was done instantly with no trouble and immediate transfers can be made from one account to the other. It comes up on the screen along with your other totals (credit card, current account etc) and it's great to see the figure increasing. They also have a great thing that you can sign up for online that rounds up any money spent on your debit card and puts that extra money into any account you choose (I have mine put in the savings account). The savings account is totally online based and is perfect for my needs.
Hope this helps.Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10

I'd suggest a bank that you know can do an immediate transfer to your current account, in case of problems, however not the same bank that your current account is with so you don't see it every time you log in to your online banking.
For example, I have my current account with RBS, and an e-saver with Tesco (part of the RBS group). I can't see it when I log in to RBS, and transfers to it (and back from it) are instant.0 -
Many thanks to all that have posted. I'm so sorry that my "thanks" button is not working, but when it does I will make sure to thank you all.I am currently with Barclays for my current account. Will the Tesco e-saver transfer immediately into any bank do you know (and will I get clubcard points for doing so??)YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
