Sainsbury's Wine - Labelling Error - £1.88/750ml

Hello,

This one's a bit of a fiddle, but worth it if you love a tipple or two!

At the moment Sainsbury's have a half price offer on a 3 litre box of Terre Dei Sicani NERO D'AVOLA SHIRAZ red wine. (There is a white wine too) Reduced from £19.99 to £9.99.

Quite a good deal already, before you notice the small print on the large promotional shelf labels are saying the wine is £2.50 per litre. So a 3 litre box should actually cost 3 x £2.50 = only £7.50.

Trading Standards call this "misleading pricing information" which is a criminal offence. (See Consumer Direct for more info.)

When I very kindly pointed this out :D , I was refunded the £2.50 per box. So I now have a small stockpile of above average wine that I paid the equivalent of £1.88 a bottle!

N.B. This only applies to stores using the large red and white promotional shelf labels that say "Half Price" on the left hand side - these are the labels with the error on them. All other labels I have seen are correct i.e. £2.50/750ml - so get in quick before they remove all the labels!

P.S. You will need to buy the wine first (having checked the large price label) and then ask for a refund, otherwise the shop will remove the label and say "Thanks for letting us know, the correct price is £9.99" - 'cos they can be cheeky like that!

PPS - if you buy 6 boxes you might get a further 5% off. I have not tried this, but if it works, it means you only pay £7.12 per box, or £1.78 per 750ml.
