Make Do and Mend

I think this is the right thread to share this story on as it fits in with the 'Make do and mend' ethos.
Yesterday I was given a sack of knitting yarn most of which is recycled wool. It was given to me by a lovely 91year old lady who has been widowed for 34 years.
Shortly after she was widowed her daughter in law took her to a jumble sale. She had never been to one before and didn't know what to buy until she saw a lovely knitted garment and thought 'I could undo that and use the wool'. This started a 'hobby' of recycling wool.
I'm sure she has knitted many things over the years but now has a wardrobe full of wool and doesn't knit so much nowadays. Well the garden keeps her busy. At 91 WOW.
I have my work cut out now doing justice to my new stash. I'm thinking hand made pressies - tea cosies, felted bags, scarves etc. All I need now is the time and another pair of hands wouldn't come amiss and oh yes - someone to do the garden.

I went through my clothes at the weekend and had a good sort out a few things were oly fit for the bin but I found a sweatshirt with a hole in the lower arm , so I just cut off the sleeves and now have a short sleeved sweatshirt and an old dress that had a tear in the top I cut off the skirt part and used some of the fabric from the top to make a waistband added a few buttons and voila I have a nice newish skirt for the summerBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

My grandson has a favourite T shirt - the kind with false over sleeves. The elbows of this had worn through so I have unpicked the false long bit from each sleeve and he now has a short sleeved favourite shirt. No sewing needed!!0

Mending!!!! Not Buying!!!! Perhaps the best way of late I've found to save money. Well... I say of late, once - my dishwasher broke, i figured if i could get a decent price i'd get it repaired :T

Good link cjm I have put that in my bookmarks.0 -
A bit of a strange one cjmarcantio. Are you sure you are not affiliated with this company as your first post back in January said this:
Would you consider looking into a repair for your machine?
My brother had his Hotpoint washer fixed with a company called Repair Care. I haven’t used them but he said they were pretty good and not too expensive. Might be worth a call. The’ve got a website I think... www.repaircare.co.uk
So it was your brother who used them??
you have also recommended them at least once since then, as well as another site which operates out of the same address in Birmingham.
Can you clarify any of this please?
It's only a game

So, by your logic, everyone who posts on here is affiliated in some way with sites / companies they link to?
Personally I've used them and had 3rd hand accounts of the company - in both accounts i can't say a bad word about them.

Hi cjmarcantonio,
Looking at your previous posts you do seem very keen to recommend that company. Others haven't had such a positive experience. See this thread.
As we have an existing thread on 'make do and mend' I'll add this thread to that one to keep the suggestions together.
