Hi there
Are you receiving SMP or full pay from your employer??
Everyone gets child tax credit but the working family tax credit will be based on your and your husband earnings for 2007-2008 up until 31-03-09, and from the start of the new tax year 01-04-09 it will be based on you and your husbands wages for this year (2008-09)
If you dont return to work or your earnings decrease you must inform them and your payments may go up
I think the likelihood of getting the sure start grant will be based on your income, I qualified although didnt apply for it as I was a single parent but had saved so didnt need it. I'd apply for it anyway the worst thing they'll tell you is no
If your on a low income apply for housing benefit/rate relief also
Congratulations by the way & welcome to MSE

when u get ur birth registered you can get your child benefit which has just gone up to £20 a month. there is a wee thing in your bounty pack to send away to government to get this. you need to phone the tax office and register for tax credits once your baby is born. the basic rate is £1090 a year for a new baby then decreases to 545 when they a year old. if you ahve low incomes it will be more. they will tell you how much it is when you phone.
maternity pay is 90% of your earnings for 6 weeks then 117 a week for 32 weeks i think (dont quote me on that) dont forget as well u accrue ur holiday entitlement during this time (i didnt take mine b4 the tax year eneded so i got a bulk payment of 3 weeks which came in handy)
working tax credit as far as i can see is for people on low incomes, single parents or people with lots of kids that dont earn a lot. tahts just my grasp of it though.
sure grant is only available if you are single parent, or receive a benefit like income support whcih i would presume you dont as u and oh both work 40hrs a week.
hope this helps.love you lots like jelly tots
