Slavery is another issue altogether. They are brought here against their will (or forced into situations they did not expect). Illegal, and an issue of holding someone against their will – this is not a welfare issue as addressed by the social welfare system. There is appalling poverty in this country but much of it is preventable. The system of social workers is in place to address these situations. I know the system often doesn’t work – the solution is to fix it so it does.
Sorry - you said that you refused to accept poverty existed in the UK.
I gave you the first idea that popped into my mind. There are plenty more, just look around you. For example, I don't know how many people froze to death this winter whilst sleeping rough, but I'm willing to bet it was more than a few.
I appreciate it is a different kind of poverty to that in some famine ridden, war torn hell hole, but it is a mistake entirely to deny that there is any real poverty in the UK.
Re your other points - I suspect we're just not going to agree and ought to leave it at that, but from a practicality perspective, I just genuinely don't see the point of saying "we're not taxing you" but then compelling people to spend their money a certain way (i.e. charged primary education). It is no different to tax, but is simply more haphazard to administer.0 -
It's his money and he can leave it to whom he wishes. Does he want his children to have his money and if so, when ? As a start, has he thought about giving them the most privelidged education money can buy to give them the best chance of hanging on to their inheritance ?
