And? What's wrong with that? Is the job-seeker going to lose half an hour of valuable job-seeking time? Or is it that they are going to miss Bargain Hunt?

Er you miss the point. It's not about the fact they have to wait, its about how they were told!!
    sheesh
You can't beat an egg.........................NO WAIT!

That's why the 'poor' sods receive impatient treatment. Normal people can find three jobs. Why don't they?

I meant poor sods as in those that have been made redundant through no fault of their own, woolies staff for example.
Everyone is stressed, but the difference someone can make to another persons day just by being nice sometimes picks you right up.
The O.P was not asking about those on long term unemployment.

There are alot of complaints about this sort of thing atm. The trouble is they must have to deal with so many people right now, and they dont get enough time with each individual so they dont get a decent shot at judging weather they are genuinly deserving or in need of help.

I didn't realise it was part of their job description to judge whether they deserve it or not. They are there to do a job and because they are busy doesn't justify treating people like that. I've worked in customer service based jobs for years and had to bite my tongue a few times it's all part of the job. In my own experience with jobcentre staff they were great, couldn't be more helpful.

Right my oh has work for over 20 years this is the first time he has signed on, so don't tar everyone with the same brush he is not a benefit scrounger. so before you make comments like this stop and think. Actually don't make comments at all.

Maybe you work in the job centre and trying to defend yourself with comments like this.

There is always one who has to be nasty isn't there.

JC are getting worse, on the radio the other day people that had worked all their lives and have now been made redundant are going to the JC for the first time in their lives, most said they were disgusted with the attitude of the staff, and quite honestly there is no need for it, not everyone is a chav not interested in getting a job,

I work with people that need to sign on as soon as they get to us as the first point back to the real world, and the attitude of reasons why they haven't done anything in so many years.... which when explained, they are treated badly, told they have to wait and wait, and wait, and then they paperwork is lost and no we will not back date.

We've offered to have a meeting with the JC to explain about the people we work with, I'm glad they turned us down, i would have had a few choice words to say.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

I find the JC ok when I have to sign on (I'm not a benefit scrounger, I REALLY want a job). But any other enquiries, like when I had to sign off then on again (I worked over 20 hours for one week), they treated me like crap and were very unhelpful. It all depends on the part of the Job Centre you go to. Also I've noticed that they're nearly always late seeing people. Mostly because of the lazy chavs who haven't filled in their little book to say they've done work (or haven't as the case may be)

My experience with Jobcentres in the past has been good when I needed to sign on. I would make a complaint for the treatment your OH got.

You are require to make 3 entries per week on your effort to find work not have to apply for 3 jobs/week. An example of an entry is looking for job on the metro/evening standard or other newsapapers; job search on websites, writing to employers or directly asking for vancancy etc.
  • My son's hours at Matalan have just been cut to eight a week.

Therefore he is entitled to sign on whilst he is looking for another job (eight hours at minimum wage is less than JSA)..

Hopefully he will get something else soon, in fact he's seen a job advertised for a barman in the pub at the top of his street that he can do as well as his Matalan one so hopefully he will get that).

It's not his fault his hours have been cut and no reason for anyone to make remarks like one of the posters on here.

Whatever the situation, it is not the JC staff's place to be rude to people (although I can see situations where they may have to be assertive, this is not the same as being rude). I have worked in a forward-facing Customer Services role and was NEVER rude to anyone.
