University Office Staff- what was their problem???

  • I agree I would find it extremely difficult to complain about my own tutor :-/ Luckily my personal tutor is great (although some people don't like her because she is very hands-off and they want high levels of support- I like my autonomy!) although I did make an unofficial complaint about another tutor who I wasn't 'under' in any way. She was overpromoted without a doubt and tried to cover up her inadequacy by among other things persuading my (much younger) fellow union rep not to go to a school meeting because she knew that information that showed her in a negative light was going to be presented and that I would not be at the meeting due to a prior obligation. I complained to the head of the course about this. A few weeks later, the tutor decided to take early retirement- I think this issue was the culmination of a series of larger problems.

Over promotion is rife within the higher education sector - the more incompetent you are the more you are shoved up the tree into higher positions:rolleyes:

I think the principle is the higher you are the less damage you can do as you can be shoved off into a non job like Director of Paper Clip Acquisition! There also seems to be a lot of the 'great british prat' in Higher Education. People that think they're marvelous, have no concept of their own shortcomings and yet complain about everyone else being an idiot.
