Course Fee Outstanding - Feel Embarrassed

I am doing an online course through learn direct for ECDL Essentials. I was employed when I took this course out and paid £30 deposit which I got back from petty cash from employer at the time. When I left in november for personal reasons my boss said at the time not to worry about payment for the course (£90 in total) and it would be taken care of (even though I said at the time 'no i can't let you pay for it' and she said no worries).
I recently booked one of my exams for friday and my tutor has found out that my then employer has not paid up the £90. I can't go back to the employer to ask for it, but have decided to send a cheque to the tutor but now have to reschedule my exam as the cheque will not clear by friday and they need that before i start. Feel really embarrassed and so does the tutor but why did they not spot the missing payment before xmas??

is the Essentials course moire involved than the basic(?) ECDL?
I did mine free, a few years ago- was aimed at long term unemployed, but open to all. intended to take 10 weeks (one half day per week), I finished in 5.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

yes it is good and quite fun but some of the online programs do not work with windows vista so had to go in and do the course.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
IMO the employer signed the contract for you to enrol on this course therefore is liable to pay the bill. A college should not be chasing you for the fee and should use their credit control/finance dept to chase your previous employer for the payment...why should you be embarrassed. Do not hand over a cheque and IMO it is not your resp to chase your ex employer to pay the bill.
I have completed the ECDL a couple of years ago and yes it was free although I think funding changed for adult learners hence the fee...but I would check with the college. Why did I not have the LBM years ago?LBM Dec 2008 -Debt total then £18,802.24. :eek:August 2010 - Student Loan £5526.Loan £5642 -£3000 saved towards final payment:)Balance Outstanding £8168.0 -

No it was not like that at all, I enrolled on the course through next steps through job centre before I got the job at my employer. I told them about the course and they asked me for the invoice after I paid £30 deposit to learndirect and then the employer gave me £30 petty cash and then they kept the invoice for the £90. If I go asking the employer for the money they will not provide me with future references. Should i ask the college to contact the employer direct? My boss did say the £90 would be paid.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230
