Catholic Wedding during Lent - advice!

I've recently decided to get married in February at a local church. I have not spoken to the priest yet but realised that my date falls during Lent.

Having googled it I've found in some parishes its frowned up and in others its allowed.

Do any MSEr's have any experience of getting married during Lent or any advice on how I can sway the priest into allowing it? ;)

Thanks in advance x

If your date is recently decided, is it fixed? It seems short notice if it is this year, but if so, lent starts 25th Feb, so maybe you could try for just before that? Plus if you haven't booked the church yet, are you sure the date you want is still available?

    Good luck :-)

    Hi,

I think it will depend on the individual priest, so have a word with him first. If not then either change the location or date??? I know our priest wouldn't baptise DD or DS during Lent. Hope everything works out ok!
  • it depends on the preist, i have organised a catholic wedding that was during lent and the preist was more than happy to do it , but i have heard from other people in different parishes that they were told to change the date,

i would check with the priest first before setting the date in stone as you may get dissaponited

Ich - it would be a 2010 wedding.

Thanks for the replies girls. I think I'm just putting off asking the priest just incase he absolutely refuses :) I really have my heart set on the date. He's new to the parish so I can't really read what he's like about things like this. Can't put if off forever tho! If its not allowed then I'll move the wedding to December if I must x
