NI contributions and pension credit

I am currently self employed and getting working tax credit, my NI insurance is credited.
I've just done a pension forecast online and they say I need to pay 3 years to top up my NI contributions (about £760)
If I am only getting state pension in a couple of years time and its about £9 less than the full amount won't it be topped up with pension credit?
If so is it pointless paying the extra? Surely I will be out of pocket.
Just trying to work it out.
THanks

If you mean you will have no other pensions or income after state pension age other than the state pension (or part thereof ) then you should indeed be eligible for pension credit ( 124 pounds a week currently vs full basic state pension 90 pounds) and it would not be worth paying the extra years.Trying to keep it simple...

However, don't forget that Pension Credit is means-tested, so if you have any other income which will put you over the threshold for Pension Credit, then you won't get it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
