Which utility company are the most friendly to people with bad credit??? Sorry I have already posted a similar post but my question about who to apply to was half way down a big post of mine (if that makes sense lol) so my ? didn't get answered.
Basically N Power are being included in my BR end of Feb as in arrears (about £250), have got keys to rented house and want to apply for gas and electric in our name but don't want a prepayment meter. I have not got CCJs but have got about 3 defaults on my file and numerous missed payments. Have searched the archives and have seen on one post Scottish Power are good so might try them - any other suggestions?? xx

I would also check your tenancy agreement first, when we lived in rented one of ours had a clause in it that we couldnt change providers without landlords approval first.
Go via quidco if you do decide to do it, there could be some good cashback offers on there0 -
Fantastic thanks for all your help. Will go with EDF then if no credit checks and United Utilities for water.
Blueisthecolour - I will check that - hadn't thought of it. He seems really laid back - we can decorate and even vent our dryer out because he knows my husband is handy so fingers crossed he won't mind. We have not told him about the BR yet, we are thinking of asking OR and if he has to inform him then if so phoning him and explaining - he knows my husbands business has failed and that our credit is shocking, just don't think any landlord would take too kindly to a prepayment meter xxI cant change the past, but the future is mine to play with!

hi blue i think the tennat has a right to choose is utility company no matter what as long the landlord knows i do not see the problem
if you a clause like this in your contract then i think it is an unfair term of contract
have a look to that

"Against changing the phone or utility supplier.
The tenant should have the choice of supplier although he may be required to keep the landlord informed of any change and to return the account to the original supplier at the end of the tenancy"BSC number 1830
