Ed you say to click on your sig to see who you are and what you stand for so I did just that.
There I found this post entitled "FSA to investigate WP advice problem" .
Now on your own website you(or someone in your association) use a title which matches the Telegraph report and you quote from the article exactly.
Here you change the title to "FSA to probe IFA advice problem" and misquote the article.
Why?
P.S. Just read dunstonh's edit about having an excellent repository of media articles on financial services. I would agree on this but can't understand why you put a different slant on for this forum.
Again why?0 -

No..Paraphrasing is not the same as misquoting, sorry, and the word "IFA" is mentioned right at the start of the article, which says :"The Financial Services Authority has raised concerns that most financial advisers are ill-equipped to advise clients on whether to bail out of with-profits funds or to stay put.David Strachan, the FSA's head of insurance, said: "There is a concern that there aren't that many IFAs out there well-equipped to advise on whether policyholders should stay with or leave with-profits funds."
I think it's pretty clear it's IFAs he's talking about.I'm sorry, I saw no humour in your previous response and still do not after giving it another read. I just see another attack on IFAs.
The Scotsman article contains a massive list of questions that the poor unfortunate policyholder is supposed to ask the product provider in order to get an idea of whether he should keep or dump his WP policy.Plus a few auxiliary questions to ask the adviser. No indication given of the answers to the questions of coutrse.
I just thought you might see the irony of it, that's all.
This is my last post on this thread as we're just going round in circles.Trying to keep it simple...0 -

Ah I've got it! You felt that we at MSE needed the Telegraph article "clarifying"EdInvestor wrote:"The Financial Services Authority has raised concerns that most financial advisers are ill-equipped to advise clients on whether to bail out of with-profits funds or to stay put.David Strachan, the FSA's head of insurance, said: "There is a concern that there aren't that many IFAs out there well-equipped to advise on whether policyholders should stay with or leave with-profits funds."

Oh sorry! You didn't feel we needed it "clarifying" - you thought it was clear already. This is my last post on this thread as we're just going round in circles.

Did you see this story in the Scotsman today? It advises people like the readers in this forum what to do if they have a With-profits policy like an endowment.
See the questions you have to ask?
What's so hard about that?
I don't know what all these IFAs are whingeing about.
Ed, The paragraph you ended with "you know what to do" you had been talking about public confusion as to IFAs , tied agents etc , thats why I asked what your point was.
Didnt you read the rest of that post, I thought I told you that many IFAs do know what to ask and have the systems and the where with all to deal with with-profits. What personal experience to you have of IFAs that cant manage to deal with the WP fund problem?
Posting an artical penned by the worst financial journalist I have ever come across will not make me change my mind. Obviously Gordon Wilson is still buying Jennifer lunch even though she is no longer in ABERDEEN.
BTW . Which IFAs are whingeing. This post started with your comments about the FSA review. Please point out the posts where IFAs are whingeing about the FSA review.0 -

No point whiteflag. Ed has taken her attacks on IFAs to another thread now.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
