My sister gets married 4th July so me and our other sister are arranging her hen night - but im toatally stuck for ideas on what to do. She doesnt like going really cluby nightclubs - Or any male stripper things.

If you could help me with some ideas that would be fantastic

How about a spa day with a nice meal? This would be my ideal hen do.
  • How does she feel about musicals or plays. How about going to see a show and having a meal before hand. If you are not to far from London then there are several companies that do packages where you can stay in a hotel overnight. A meal, a show (Chicargo maybe), then back to your hotel for drinks sounds good to me. Or how about a murder mystery evening?

One of my friends took all of her friends to one of those ceramic pottery places where you can paint your own plates/bowls etc. She asked everyone to make her a piece to make up a dinner set for her trousseau - which seemed to go down quite well.

It's not my cup of tea - I shall be painting the town scarlet! LOL

I like aimee and Minxy's ideas, and a hen do involving clubbing and strippers would be my idea of hell, but that's just my personal taste! I also like the idea of just chilling out at home with a takeaway and lots of girly films.

Has your sister got any particular interests? I read on a blog of a bride who included a craft afternoon as part of her hen do, I suppose it helps if all the other girls are into that as well.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!
  • I love the idea of a girly weekend but don't have anywhere big enough to accommodate everyone so have booked a cottage for the weekend. Went through these: http://www.acaciacottages.co.uk/ and they will book most things for you which saves a lot of work.

Not going for another month so don't know what it will be like yet...fingers crossed!
  • i'm not a club or stripper sort of person, so i opted for a pamper party, i had a local salon come to my house and charge per treatment, their were 15 of us and each had 2-3 treatments eachcosting from £3 for a nail paint to £20 for a full massage.
everyone bought wine or food and we had a great night.

Some suggestions I have heard (some of which I have been to!) have been:

Afternoon tea at a 'proper' tea room

    Wine tasting

A tour of Newquay zoo including feeding the penguins (I did it for my 21st bday but they had done hen parties in the past!)

    Bingo

    in house pamper/girlie dvd evening

    Nice meal

    Picnic

    BBQ

    Bellydancing lessons/ burlesque fan dancing

    Paintballing/quadbiking/rockclimbing

As you see the possibilities are endless - it just depends on what the bride and her invitees are into (some people had 2 parties to accomodate different tastes!)

I don't really see what all the big fuss about hen nights and stag dos are. They're just not my kind of thing.
We'll see when the time comes I suppose, but I'll probably just head out somewhere nice and expensive for dinner with my sister.

How far in advance do people do their 'day'?

  • u can get a theatre ticket and a meal for £20 on last min at the mo or pricier ones up to £40ish.

What about going to Milton Keynes and doing a snowboarding sessions? Or going indoor rock climbing somewhere?

I do also like the sound of a spa day too.

You could always do a theatre /dinner /hotel package which would be a lot of fun : )
