Hi folks,
We are currently in the process of renovating our house and are looking to change our current gas boiler over to a combi boiler. We also need a gas hob fitted.
We had a guy out last week who quoted £1100 to change boiler over to a GloWorm combi, remove all the pipes and existing water tank, and another £120 to plumb in the hob. I dont know if this is a reasonable price or not - opinions greatly appreciated.
Also if anyone knows of a CORGI registered gas installer/fitter who would be able to come out so we could compare quotes and make a decision from there.
Thanks

Hi Sparky40,
We have just had our house converted to gas before Christmas. Like yourself we wanted a combi boiler and removal of all the pipes, oil tank and existing water tank in the roof space and hot press. We had three quotes initially and in the end we selected H S Mechanical Services because he not only provided the best quotation, but he also provided a clear understand of the job in hand. Previously he had visited my mothers oil system and demonstrated an excellent service with her, along with the way he approached the job was second to none.
HSMS advised us to go with a Ferroli Optimax HE 31 C and the quality of manual supplied was fantastic. They do a run through of the manual and explain how everything works. At the moment they are just tidying up the snag list of little things like boxing in pipes and taking the oil tank away in the garden. The overall cost was similar to what you have been quoted, except we did not ask about putting in gas hob, but we can have this done at a latter stage if you choose.
We had asked all suppliers quoting if they removed the pipes and the tanks, as we had heard in many cases they may quote for dismantling these items but don't mention that they will leave them in your garden as your problem to dump. I would advise you to ensure that who ever you choose to go with, that they state in the quote exactly what they intended to do with the waste material. We have heard some stories of people having to remove the waste items themselves and then paying a large fee at the dump, so just be careful!
If you are interested in getting a quote from HSMS his email address is hugh_smyth@hotmail.co.uk
