Job Offer Advice

Please dont shoot me down saying im lazy and a scrounger because im really not. Ive been unemployed for a year and after applying for 40+ jobs am 95% sure im going to be offered one. Its as a carer going round to old peoples houses, not the ideal job but anything is better than nothing.
Anyway have told the interviewer that i need a min of 16 hrs a week and as the working hours were between set times starting 7am -2pm told her which ones i could do, 6hrs monday, 6 tuesday, 4 thursday and 4 on friday =20 p/w. Have now found out that travelling to the houses is not included in the working hours so am not sure that i would achieve the 16 hrs needed for wtc.
Also i need to have business use on my car insurance, does anyone know roughly how much this will be?
If i accept this job i need to give 4 weeks notice if i wanted to leave and as i have applied for more suitable jobs if i were to be offered one wouldnt want to lose out because of the notice i'd have to give.
The other problem i can for-see is my 13 year old daughter....who lives at a snails pace. This job would envolve me leaving the house at 6.45am, yes i know at 13 she should be able to get herself ready for school and leave but in reality its not like that. Any advice please?

The other thing to take into account is that, as your job only starts when you reach the first client, and endds when you leave the last client of the day, you cannot claim relief for travel to and from these clients. I have seen posts on Yahoo Answers from people doing this sort of job who say that it is just not worthwhile.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Adding business travel to your insurance can cost anywhere from nothing to several hundred pounds - the latter if you are a young driver or the business mileage is high. I suspect it will be a fair bit for you, as this is not 'occasional business travel' (which I have as I have to travel from one site to another 2 or 3 times a year and was £10 extra on my insurance) but every day for this job. No harm in ringing up your insurance company and asking.
I'm all for unemployed people getting out to work if they can, but this job sounds like it is not worthwhile.0 -
You really need to apply for more jobs to get some better options, 40 odd in a year is absolutely nothing! If you've recently switched from IS to JSA you'll find the Jobcentre will expect you to be far more proactive than this.
I wouldn't worry about the notice period; this would be the same for anybody going from one job to another.0 -
On the notice issue, like the other poster said, 4 weeks is standard practice, and so you shouldn't lose out on anything as all employers expect this, on the car insurance just get some quotes from confused.com on the web, quick and easy and on your daughter do you have any neighbours or family friends that live nearby where you can drop her off at that time? When my parents worked and I was around 13 they would drop me off to a neighbours and that neighbour would take me to school with their own kids, no charge just cos they were niceLife is one long project0

why do you need business insurance on your car insurance? surely it's just social and commuting?
If you were to take someone in the car, run them to the shops etc, fair enough, otherwise why would you?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
It's the first class of business insurance you need, Traveling to placeS of work rather than to a place of work. I have this for my job and it only costs me an extra £20 a year.
As for your daughter, mobile phones work wonders nag via mobile. I call my son at 7:30 am every morning from work so he gets his !!!! in gear and ready for school, a couple of calls between this and leaving times also work.
Only you can decide for yourself if you are going to be happy in this kind of work with the traveling that's involved.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
