Obscene spending on Aviva "celebrities"

By changing the name in the UK to Aviva actually brings the UK in line with the rest of the world.
NU sponsor athletics in the UK to the tune of something like £40m over a few years. These events are televised around the world, so it could be argued that the name change, and spending money on it is actually good value, as it will allow Aviva (a globally recognised brand) to be seen worldwide on the TV, rather than NU which is not known globally.
Shame that NU name is going after 200 or so years, though...0 -

It's obviously good advertising or you wouldn't all be writing about it.0

But we're not all rushing out to buy Aviva insurance... so it's not THAT good advertising!0 -

And we actually want this do we?
To me the name 'Aviva' conjours up images of a brothel somewhere in downtown Mexico City and terrible memories of an appalling Vauxhall car that should never have left the drawing board.
At least 'Norwich Union' had an identifiable piece of my beloved England embodied in the name and that alone imparted a sense of trust.
As for Aviva ... it'll end up on the scrapheap with all the other Vivas. They certainly won't be getting my custom.

I didn't say I wanted it, just trying to explain the reasons behind it
It's my part of the world too, and several generations of my family have worked for "The Union".
But it's part of a global company now, and I can understand the reasons for the change. If you look at this heritage link to the Aviva website you can see how many names have been absorbed into what is now Aviva, some of which are well known but also no longer used.
By the way, my dad used to have a Vauxhall Viva0 -
