Another thing you could do is get some sesame seeds, linseeds (flaxseeds) and almonds and grind them up with a stick blender and you can either throw them in with the bread mix, they won't notice much difference but they are getting extra nutrition it will help with their energy levels too.
See below...

My sons want instant grab food when they open the fridge,I always make sure there are plenty of sandwich fillings in there,I make up tubs of tuna and salad cream/mayo,egg and salad cream/mayo,slices of thinly sliced chicken breast. When I make bread I always use half brown/half white flour.Breakfast they just help themselves to cereal,so I only have to cook in the evenings.0

Had another thought - i always add peas or sweetcorn when cooking pasta. I've never seen anyone bother to pick it out so it's a good way to pad out and sneak in veg.
I also sometimes add herbs to flavour the rice while it is simmering. Turmeric and paprika added make it into paella flavoured rice. This is really yummy and always gets eaten.0 -
My 14 yr old son just eats and eats. His fave at the mo is breville made with the tins of beans and sausages and grated cheese!!
Hes also got a passion for those packets of chinese noodles (£1 for 5) ,he eats 2 packets at a time ,not all that healthy but fills him for at least an hour!!
He also loves peanut butter and banan a sandwiches on wholemeal bread ,3 at a time.Moneysaving? - I cant stop spending because of this site!0 -
My son was very fussy about eating branded goods, white bread, branded snacks. I was a slave to that boys stomach.
Then he lived on his own for a year on benefits, now he will eat anything, he knows just what it is like to be hungry. I am not reccommending this action to anyone, just pointing out that if it really comes down to it they will eat not starve.
Now we all eat healthily I just have to manage cheaply!

When I had 4 teenagers at home I had 2 BM's & put both on twice a day for plain bread over night for lunchboxes & flavoured bread during the day, so it was a ready made snack for when they arrived home from school. I also had a 6lt SC that was used most days.

Does your son eat those noodles cooked? Mine has been addicted to them for about five years, eats them dry and uncooked! Drives everyone else off the sofa, all that crunching! :eek:0 -
:T :T I am realising from all these posts that I have just gotta think big! Also plenty of you have this experience of trying to fill a seemingly bottomless pit! I do have the big SC as this is just essential now.
Think I have become particularly overwhelmed as hubby has been off sick for 3 months and will for another 3 months probably so now have to cook lunch everyday too. Then DS gets home ready to consume a fridge full of food just as a snack. He eats very little at school because he is so busy playing football so tends to meet most of his calorie needs post school.
Thanks to all your great ideas I feel in better shape for the challenge.0 -
I make something called a Bacon Roly Poly its very filling.
You make a suet pastry. Fry off Bacon and onions. Roll out the pastry and spead all over with the bacon and onions. Roll like you would a swiss roll.
Cook in the oven until brown.
I serve it with potatoes and veg goes down very will with the children and hubby :j0
