Hi,
Could anybody point me in the right direction on claiming back emergency tax that i was paying when i first started working?
Can it be done online at all?
All help on this is much appreciated as i have no clue on what to do

When did you start working?
If it was this tax year then any correction should be done in your wages. If you did not have a P45 to give to your employer then a P46 should have been filled in and sent to the tax office, as a result of this the tax office would issue a tax code and any previous pay and tax figures to your employer. These details would then be incorporated in your pay details with your current employer and any tax adjustment would be in your wages.
If it was last tax year that you ended on emergency tax then you will have to contact your tax office. Your payroll dept. should be able to give you their phone number.
It is worth bearing in mind that paying emergency tax does not always mean that you pay to much tax, it can be about right or occasionally even to little tax. To get a better idea can you advise your current tax code and basis,your week/month number on your last pay slip, and your gross to date and tax paid?0
