Iceland buys 51 Woolworths Stores

Couldn't see this posted.

A bit of good news here, Iceland are planning to create 2,500 jobs with the purchase of these stores.

It's not all doom and gloom (yet!).

Nice to see a couple of my home county towns in that list (lived in Yorkshire until a couple of years back).

My local town has just opened a huge shopping centre on the otherside to the high street. The highstreet has woolworths, a boots, currys/dixons (one of them), mcd's, bakers oven and random lawyer places.

Woolworths was by far the biggest shop on that highstreet, goodness knows whats going to happen with that building now. All the lawyer places just say 'No longer in operations'.

Now on that bit of highstreet there is WHSmith (soon to be dead), I forgot that one on the list! Boots - well theres a bigger one in the shopping centre place so that'll go, McDs, that will obviously stay, the banks, easy to get to so I would think they will stay.

Other than that, that end of town is going to become extinct
  • Bexhill had a pretty big Woolies but not in a place that would be easy for people to shop for large amounts of groceries for really as the parking is dire, but it is in the middle of the main shopping road.

Not sure how it will get on there though, maybe Kerry K can do the grand openings?
    Nothing to see here

Suprised that they have bought the Bodmin store as there is already a Sainsburys, Asda and Morrisons and a rumoured Lidl there!!
