How would DWP know where the money has come from without investigation? Business? Selling your own things? It is naive of you to think that will not lead to investigation if they can see regular money coming into your account.

I am also sure that while you are honest there are many more that are not and this means people can run a business and get paid into Paypal, spend the money on vouchers, while still claiming benefits.....

There is no way DWP would ignore regular payments into your account so if you are doing this and claiming be sure to keep everything to do with those transactions so you can prove you was seling personal things and not goods that are making you a profit (running a business!!). Hence these people not caring what they pay for the vouchers as long as the money does not go into their account.

In regard to people who are working selling their own things, yes they can, but if they sell for profit then it still needs to be declared to the taxman - and there are many people who do not do that either. Shouls somene who sells a lot get investigated then yes, in the same way the Taxman is going to want to know what you have sold. However, someone working only has the taxman to answer to and not the DWP - and you risk your benefits being stopped while it is investigated - you do not have this if you have a job and still get your wage. Some people do not want the 'risk'.

DID, if I called the DWP today and told them I thought you was working on the side, on the internet, they would call you for investigation, if they see the regular amounts of money going onto your statement they are certainly going to want to know where it has come from and possibly stop your money while they found out. If the money is not there there is nothing to investigate. So these people use the money to buy vouchers straightaway and no-one is any the wiser. That could be a nice little earner on top of benefits. There would then be nothing to stop me picking things up that are cheap, flogging them on eBay and using the money I've been paid by my customers into Paypal to buy vouchers for the high street and still claim all the benefits for not working.

:rotfl: well i dont have anything to sell lol! i wish i bloody did, chance would be a fine thing..only thing i have of value is a bottle of grey goose vodka i got as an xmas present !! and a dog..although she isnt for sale hahaha:rotfl:

All i ment was there is no rule saying that if u have somethin you no longer want that you cannot sell it etc...for example say u had a cabinet that was of no use and wanted to sell it for a sum of money...it is a one off occasion and you are perfectly allowed to do it!! ...of course if your continually selling things to make a profit on a regular basis thats diffrent..but to sell something once...on the odd occasion say every 2-3 years to de-clutter your home is not benefit fraud and you cant get into trouble for it at all.
The OP was asking about doing this on this one occasion-not as a regular thing,if she went declaring it to the benefits people they would proberly think she was mad
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona

don't get me started on benefits- after losing my job last year. I went on to look for voluntary work while I got my head together (I had a 'bit' of a break down after losing my job), I found voluntary work, 4 hours a week.

Two weeks later I am interviewed under caution, why? because I am working. I tell them it is unpaid, they say it does not matter, its still work and they can take the benefits I get from me.

In this case they did not, they said if it happens again, they can do, without warning me or telling me first.

So please, tell me, how do I get my skills and work experience up so I can get a job to earn enough to support myself? And before you suggest that I do a course they offer- I am not applicable, this is because I have a degree, -they told me this, they said its not something they would be able to fund, but my degree wont get my any work (not paid work anyway) as its in Design. I have no money to do any self paid for courses, I am not allowed a loan or credit (bankrupcy) I am not allowed to do voluntary work and I cannot work in a minimum wage job as I live alone, in London and need to be able to survive financially (I have nothing to fall back on).
  • Jennie, you ARE allowed to work, either paid or unpaid, up to 16 hours (read it as 15.5 lol) a week, as long as you declare it. Whether you get NO money or payment in kind, or if they pay your expenses, give you a free lunch, or you're waged, you need to tell them. I know it's pathetic. I was not allowed to do voluntary work at one point because they were paying my travel and giving me £3 towards my lunch, despite it being worthwhile, and sopping me having a large gap in my CV...were they interested? No. I don't know how they "got" you so fast; I shopped 3 people who were working (for wages) on JSA and not declaring it, and the DWP did NOTHING, yes NOTHING, as I am going to report them again on principle...

I did Avon for the last couple of months of Incapacity Benefit and Jobseekers Allowance, but I declared all my earnings (virtually nil once you extracted costs). They were fine with it as long as under 16 hours. It's declaring it that is the key - if you don't and they catch you, of course you are going to say "it's voluntary". I am not disputing your version of events BTW, just saying that you will be tarred with the same brush as the benefit cheats.
