Everything was working fine this morning - and received e-mail. This afternoon having not done anything - I can't send or receive e-mail, I get various messages which say stuff like The host 'pop3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'pop3', Server: 'pop3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
!!!!!!!
I've tried the troubleshooting stuff but can't get any joy. As it was ok this morning and not when I switch on this afternnoon am at a bit of a loss.
Help.

It could well be your ISPs mail servers are down. check with their website to see if there is any announcement. I can't see how it could be anything else assuming you've done nothing to your system other than checking mail this morning then rebooting later to find your mail client wasn't functioning. I take it you've checked your Outlook (express) server settings and they are still intact?

    Hi Misty,

    It's not wanadoo is it?

I went to send mail to an MSE'r and got this:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk (1)', Server: 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

You can spend your time alone re digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize you're the only one who can forgive yourself.
Makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

  • Give it a while and it will come good again.

If this is the first time you have suffered these problems, then I can only assume you are not with NTL. Their servers spend more time down than up (or so it seems). :D

Other than patience, there is no solution to this one short of changing ISP. ::)
  • also log onto your ISP's website and see if there's a status update. It should tell you if there are any problems with the service, including email problems
  • Just been to wanadoo.co.uk

    Email
We are currently receiving reports from customers experiencing difficulties when trying to send email where the the email software displays this error code, OX800CCCOE. Our engineers have been investigating the issue since the first calls were received and have identified that there may be a network fault, not an email service fault, that is affecting a small portion of our service. We are working hard to pinpoint the faulty equipment and will restore normal service as soon as possible. If you are experiencing the error mentioned above please try disconnecting and reconnecting as this may resolve the problem. The problem can also be caused by settings in personal firewall software, for example that found in Windows XP, and does not necessarily relate to faults with our mail service, we suggest that you try disabling the email options in your personal firewall according to the manufacturers instructions, in addition further information can be found on Microsufts support site : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514

    Thanks S_G!!

    Hope this helps you Misty
