  • I prefer Sainsburys basics - esp the teacakes about 24p for 4, the jaffa cakes, tin foil and beans!

I also dispense the 9p basics shower gel into a lovely chrome pump dispenser in the bathroom!

I think someone else mentioned before me that the basics are not always the cheapest - I noticed that the other day.

I have seen alot more products lately in my local sains including ground coffee and a lovely looking raisin slab cake!
  • There are a lot of threads on the Shop Don't Drop board about value products, so as this thread isn't strictly Old style, I'll move it over there :D

i like sainsburys value range....the fruit and vef is nice....fairtrade bananas are good....i think the sains value tbags are ok and really cheap
    onwards and upwards
  • I think Sainsbury's do more basics stuff ( I have no proof of this - it's just that when I go to buy the stuff I want, Sainsbury's always seem to have a basics equivalent, whereas Tesco sometimes does not have a value equivalent)

I love sainsbury's chocolate digestives - I think they are 36p - there are a bit smaller than McVities, but still taste lovely. The chopped tomatoes are better than Tesco (I find Tesco ones quite poor)

  • Another vote for Sainsburys! Their basics range is quite varied and mainly of a decent quality. Since I tried the basics mozzarella balls I haven't bought any others, they really are lovely :D Also worth a try are the basics part baked bagettes, tinned toms, bacon pieces and butter

I'd recommend Sainsbury's basics range - the salmon pieces are responsibly farmed and are much cheaper than normal.

    HTH

I'd recommend these too. I used to buy salmon from M&S or Waitrose but these are great.

I would say Sainsbury's Basic range over Tesco's Value range.

And this week Sainsbury's have increased the range of their Basic products. There were a lot more in my local store this week, especially on the end displays.
  • Sainsburys ... anyway you could try one shop one week + the other the next if there was anything that you didn't like.

Dear Mr Sainsbury seems to be cottoning on to our money-saving ways! The Basics penne was 19p before Christmas, but has now gone up to a whopping 43p!

Anyway, Basic stuff I bought today - all tried and liked...
tinned toms (whole or chopped) 33p
    meatballs in tomato sauce 48p
    curry sauce 19p
    carrots ( fresh, 1.5g) 73p
smoked bacon £1.66 (cheaper in Iceland)
    corned beef (400g, 8 thick slices) £1.54
    spaghetti 39p
    custard creams 30p
    milk choc digestives 33p
    shortcake biscuits 63p
    tortilla chips 17p
    cooking apples £1.29
madeira cake (ideal for making trifle) 55p
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
