Council staff two weeks on sick
Comments
-
Public sector workers have better sickness benefits than private sector workers i.e paid time off sick rather than SSP. Again if it was all the same through the board there may not be higher levels of sickness in the public sector! Am not slating people for being ill. We are not robots and everyone gets ill at some point in their lives, unfortunately some milk the system its the way of the world. Up to management to sort it out if there is a regular pattern and there are procedures for such.

Well done to council staff in ripping of the rate payer.
Clearly someone who knows what his rates pay for

Quote from Brian Campfield of the public service union Nipsa..
"You have to remember that many council employees work outdoors in all weathers, and they are subject to quite a bit of pressure from the public from different sectors of society,"
Boo !!!!!!! Hoo.. Like that is some justificatin for pulling a sicky... What about all the Farmers, Construction Workers, Road Workers. NIE linesmen, Fishermen etc.. etc.. who work outside in crap weather... they can't go pulling sickies "cause it's cold & wet!!" Part of the job...
Cant say ive ever seen those people out fixing our motorways work on !!!!y raining day, they are usually hiding in their wee portacabins reading papers, plus u ever see the money they get paid? talk about rediculous
Dry your eyes you big jessy!!.. About time these people wake up and get into the real world...
No private sector business would still be trading if staff pulled sickies at this rate. they couldn't survive. Why should we as taxpayers have to tolerate this??
Because Council Workers and civil servants dont pay tax
I took two weeks sick last year due to hospital apts/medical reasons.
Yes some people do take the p*ss outta sick in the public sector but ud prob find that if u took out the sickness of people on long term sickness then the average days off per person would decrease quite abit.
Its the fact that there is the ability for someone to go off on the sick for 6 months and get full pay that we find abuse of the system.
What about those living off the dole? why should we taxpayers have too tolerate this? People who say they can't get a job are talking complete and utter crap. People who cant work for medical reasons are an exception as that is not their fault. But every little dole cheating scum and waste of space who apsire to living on the dole, why do we never see articles about them????? Go work in mcdonalds, do a paper route.0 -

Yip just wat I have said about the sickness benefits. The loophole is there to abuse but there is a system in place to deal with it with occupational health etc etc and the NHS for one are clamping down on such sickness procedures. We could go on forever............ there are also those who claim benefits and "do the double", ie working on the fly!........oooooooh i luv a bargain

No problem with that... these are legitimate health reasonsIts the fact that there is the ability for someone to go off on the sick for 6 months and get full pay that we find abuse of the system.
Exactly!! They shouldn't be let get away with it!! Brings the whole service into disripute!!What about those living off the dole? why should we taxpayers have too tolerate this? No incentive as they can get a house for free (rent paid), and all the other hand outs and beats working in McDonalds for £5:70/hr (Pre Tax)Cant say ive ever seen those people out fixing our motorways work on !!!!y raining day, they are usually hiding in their wee portacabins reading papers, plus u ever see the money they get paid? talk about rediculous.
That'll be the Council Road Workers:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Per chance do you work in the Civil Service??
I'm eagerly awaiting the day when a Union spokesperson actually admits that Yes. "SOME" people are taking the !!!! and these people should be disiplined or sacked cause they are a drain on society and giving the Civil Service a bad name!! Maybe then the general public won't have such a negative view of Council Workers & Civil Servants...0 -

Not a member of a Union and in all honestly Not really familiar with them but from what I see of these Spokespeople & Union leaders on TV I get the impression that they are exactly like our MLA's... Unqualified, Overpaid and pretty blo**y Usless...
They never give straight answers and never see the bigger picture... (0 -

I may do lol, but yeah i do agree with ya about some people taking the !!!! about long term sickness0 -
Deb19742004 recons the NHS are clamping down on it now.
Maybe now that the councils are feeling the pinch, what with Land Agency Screw ups etc.., they'll be looking for ways of saving money.. maybe an area worth looking at..
Maybe if those unjustifiably on long term sick had to live On Statutory Sick pay like the rest of the "Normal" working population, they'd have second thoughts!!0 -
In my current job, you don't come in to work, you don't get paid.....
When my receptionist found this out, she soon got better and came back to work after her illness.....
"You have to remember that many council employees work outdoors in all weathers, and they are subject to quite a bit of pressure from the public from different sectors of society,"
This is an absolute joke.... the public sector is well known to be a soft touch....0
