    Just to settle down really.
I have a great g/f of five years who will find me down on one knee the day i become debt free.
I would of done it way before now but ive promised myself ill get myself out of this horrible situation first. ( DFD in around 10 months if not sooner :) )
Its something to aim for and look forward too.

Mines simuliar to you! Me and my bf have agreed nowt serious until we have both paid back all our debt. I hope I'll be pretty much sorted in 2 years... then I'll be saving for a mortgage and a life time trip I guess, before we settle down and have a family!!! Well that's the "sketched" plan!

  • well i am not in the kind of debt everyone else is in but i am in a tiny amount but its a family member, but from the end of this month i am going to save more than i used to (acutually much more), that will be towards a car and later some where to settle down. I need to a) learn to drive though before either can happen lol and b) become more confident in myself to leave home :)
  • good luck everyone - it looks as though we've all thought out realistic goals so there's no reason why we cannot achieve them after we become DEBT FREE!

Mine is to take my OH somewhere nice for a weekend as a thank you for supporting me for the last 8 years of indebtedness.

Keep up the great work everyone!
    Highest debt - £24500

    Current debt - £0 !!!! :)

    Debt-free date - 4 AUGUST 2006 :D

  • I'd like to:
..have a yearly budget set up so I don't have to panic every time the car needs repair or tax etc
..build our savings to at least 3 months salary as a safety-net
..save for, and go on, a holiday
..start regular savings for my children
..be able to afford swimming/ballet lessons etc when the children want them
..be able to buy clothes, a meal out or have my hair cut again without guilt!
..be in a position to start overpaying my mortgage
    ..and eventually have baby #3!
  • save save save! There are of course little things we would like (notice, not NEED!) like a new dining table and chairs, a new bed - SO sick of the feel of springs in my side - but really, I'd just like to be able to look at all of our balances and see CR rather than OD by all of them! We've already paid our car insurance in full this year, we should have enough saved for a full year's tax and the home insurance come the summer. It'll be nice to be able to buy something when we need it, rather than scrimping and saving like we do! Drumming fingers .... roll on nine weeks from now!

Good job everyone for clearing their debts - every extra penny helps! Am off down the bank this afternoon with £5 of 10ps we've been saving!

We want to extend our house and we need a new kitchen, bathroom and boiler.
It makes me furious to think that if I hadn't been such a f**king idiot wasting money on absolute crap, half of which I can't even account for now....I would be £400 a month better off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would have paid for the work on our house and I would be enjoying a lovely home now...instead of paying off debts and interest rates.
What a stupid f**king idiot. Instead I have to wait and attempt to use a cooker that only has 3 working rings, a gas guzzling 1980's boiler and a shower that would be more effective if it had more than 3 drips coming from it at a time.
    Grrrrrrrrr, snarl etc

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

I know what you mean Linda....I was just like that wasting money on crap!

I relapse sometimes but I know that in a couple of years me being frugal now will be worth it!
    In debt no more!

When I become debt free (eventually) I'd like to save up and go on a long trip (well, for a few months at least)

But then, my debt free date looks so long in the future at the moment that who knows what Ill be doing at that point.

And then I'll reassess my life and see where I'm going.
  • Once the mortgage is out of the way, I need to put some money aside for the kids so they have a reasonable start

I will probably do a mix of property purcahse and straight saving

Obviously, I will need a crystal ball to help choose the best time to dip into property

I get a great buzz seeing my debt go down, but I don't think it's going to be half as much fun as seeing my savings go up!
    October make £10/day currently £11.02
