Having just read some of the threads on this site am now totally confused as to who I have to inform of my bankruptcy. Do I have to inform my bank?, my landlord?, my work?, utility companies? Anyone else?????????

You do not have to inform anyone of your BR. The trustee will inform all your creditors.

You will need to tell your employer if you work in certain inductries like banking, accountancy or law but generally you do not need to tell anyone unless asked.

Have you include any arrears from these ?

Not too much of a problem with bank but utilities have procedures for writing off Br debts and sooner rather than later!!!!

  • Thanks for all the replies, it is nice knowing you are not alone in all this! Only have arrears with my electric but was paying that off through my meter. Do I need to ask them to come and remove the debt from my meter or will it be done automatically?

My OR informed my Landlord within a few days, and it never gave me a chance to tell her first, good job we have a very understanding Landlord !

If the OR says that they will be contacting your Landlord about your BR during your interview then they will.

So maybe you might want to consider telling your Landlord yourself first, as its probably best coming from you and not secondhand from the OR.

    Hope this helps.

I would check with them that it has been done and backdated to the date of your BR.
