What do you think of these jobs?

Just seen a job in the paper. Dont know if I should apply.
I am currently a newspaper printer. Work is ok, the crew is good fun to work with and the money is good for the work we do.
I have to work shifts. 6am-2pm, 10pm- 6am, 2pm-10pm 2 week turn around.
New job is an aprenticeship scheme with an energy supplier, (doing electrics) for 2-3 years. Could be a little less money than I am currently on but only but 2K at most.
But I think long term the electrical job could be safer than the newspaper printing. But I dont know what to think. anyone got a view???
Has anyone got a crystal ball or know anyone that works on overhead power cabels etc, is it good work???

Why not go for the job and see if you get it as that would be a better time to decide whether to take the job or stay put. No point worrying about which you'd prefer unless you've got the choice!0

Why not give it a go. Just be wary that there will be a lot of competition out for jobs atm.
My friends brother did a similar thing with overhead power cables, obviously there is a certain level of danger involved, and alot of work, but the pay at the end is excellent.0 -
Having lived and worked through a recession before, I would say that now is not the time to voluntarily change jobs. There is a risk you could be offered the new job, resign from your present one then be made redundant within days of starting the new job - with no redundancy money as you are a new starter. I saw this happen a lot, last time around - my own company kept on recruiting right up to the day before 80% of the workforce were laid off.0

What is your "gut" reaction? Are you brimming over with pleasure about this thought or just thinking "well it could be a good idea logically"?? If head and heart are both in agreement that its a good idea to change - then maybe that is the right thing for you to do. If theres an edge of doubt, conflict, etc in your thinking - then dont - intuition is telling you "not a good idea". Honestly - "gut reactions" even if there is no logical basis in fact - often tell you something very useful to know. But - do check back with the facts you know as well.0
