howdi,
I have been a SAHM for 2 years, and am itching to get back to work. I am applying for jobs and awaiting results.
This is the thing: the woman at the job centre told me not to bother going back to work, in the positions I have been applying for (assistant at hospital) as I will be worse off financially. I cant see this being correct! She didnt give me a print out (they did at my first interview) so I have no ideas as to what my entitlements would be.
I have checked entitledto.co.uk but that says I will get £150 a WEEK in tax credits. surely not...?
To briefly outline my situation - I am now a LA tenant after my divorce, with one child, almost 2. I dont get maintainance etc from my ExH, just the regular benefits (IS, HB, CTC, CB, CTB). Is there any website whereby I can get proper calculations of what I would get? Tax credits told me to tell them the figures for calculations when I accept a post - but if I'll be worse off (or no better off and away from my child for 40 hours a week) then surely I am better off waiting?
I am looking to return to uni to study midwifery this year, again I hope returning to work doesnt impact upon the finances there (that's a whole different thread!!!).
oh! and I was declared bankrupt in October, and the official receiver has said they take 50-75% of disposable income once working but, again, couldnt be specific (even though I know what my wage will be, band 2 public service, all the same!).
I've waffled, a lot. sorry!!!
in a nutshell - any good sites for saying what tax credits, tax, national insurance etc will be (jon is for £12,300 per year).
thanks for reading - sorry if this made you fall asleep!!!

Just go to the forum and ask your question there, they're normally really fast at replying too.
Hope this helps.
