Tinned Ham

Hello - I had a small parcel at Christmas that had some Waitrose tinned ham in it. I have never used this before so wondered if there were any great recipes that I could use it for. I don't just want to use it for sandwiches, but would rather try and make a meal out of it for myself and my 3 children.

Thanks. I did a search but couldn't come up with anything.

  • chop it up and add it to a pie filling with some chicken/mushrooms/white sauce etc,
slice thickly and griddle with some eggs and homemade chips for a nice brunch!

    Hi
You could chop it up and put it in an omlette or a macaroni cheese or heat up in a cheese sauce (some philly would do) with some mushrooms or peppers and mix it with some cooked pasta, serve mixed with chopped salad leaves, toms ,cucumber and onions with some grated cheese ontop and some homemade croutons.
I often buy small bacon joints when on sale, cook, chop and freeze for use in the above meals.

Lovely thank you. I think I'll try putting half in a pie and half in the cheese sauce - yum!
  • Have you got a sandwich toaster? It makes great toasties!

I made a ham and leek pie yesterday with some ready made puff pastry and made the sauce to go in it, bought loads of fresh veg and had a friend round to dinner, who said it was fabulous!

    Thank you!!

A friend of mine makes spagetti bolognaise using tinned ham rather than mince, she loves it. Never uses mince for her spag bol now. Could be worth seeing what you think of that idea.

Tinned ham is good for pizza topping, but i like eating it on its own with a splash of brown sauce :D

Lidl's sell one of the finest tinned hams on the market. I think it's called Dulano danish premium ham. It comes in a pear shaped tin.

Does anyone know of a tinned ham where the pigs are outdoor reared?

I have stopped buying tinned ham because much of it comes from pigs reared in terrible conditions, but would love it if someone could point me in the right direction.
