Veils

If you are wearing a veil do you wear it over your face or not? And if so when do you take it away?

i think its a little old-fashioned to wear a veil over your face these days. ive not seen anyone wear it like that for donkeys.

wearing a veil still looks gorgeous though i think
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

I wore my in the traditional manner, over my face when i entered church, then my new hubby lifted it off. Then i kept the veil on until i got to the reception, by which time it had been blown off a few times!! lol
You should decide how you want your hair to be as a veil can make a difference :)

I am wearing a 2-tier veil but not putting it over my face. I would feel a little silly tbh, we have been together for years.

If you are wearing a veil, the tradition is the groom lifts it away during the service. (Can't remember if it's the 'you may kiss the bride' point or a bit before)

Im also a bit worried that if i did wear it over my face, it may catch on my tiara and pull it off!

At first I didn't think that I wanted a veil, but when I went in and tried on dresses it just seemed to finish the 'look' off.

I'm wearing my veil 'under' my hair, not on top so that it doesn't interfer with my tiara and I can choose on the day whether I put it over my face or not!

Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to go and try some veils on with a dress to see what you prefer?

  • The tradition of wearing your veil over your face seems to be dying out now, as a previous poster has said seems a bit silly if you're already living together!
If you do wear your veil over your face, these days it can be taken back by your MoH or Chief Bridesmaid once you reach your H2b although traditionally it isn't done until after the vows; at the 'you may kiss the bride' bit, this stems way back to arranged marriages so the groom couldn't back out if he saw his bride's face before they were legally married!
These days, rules aren't quite so strict and you will be able to do it wherever feels most comfortable for you.
  • i didn't wear mine over my face and i didn't have it on topof my head either its up to you what you feel comfy with

Smlsave....im actually having my veil made with my dress, so that they go together. I just cant decide whether to wear it under or over my hair or to have the veil over my face, or not. I think that once ive had a trial with having my hair done, i will be able to make more decisions.

I'm def gonna wear my veil over my face. You only get to do it once after all. I can't decide whether to have it lifted by my dad when we reach the altar, or wait until the "kiss the bride" bit!

Mind you, I still haven't bought my veil yet - I'm not sure what length to go fo. Probably elbow length I think
