Job Dilemma

I applied for 2 jobs just before Christmas, one is cleaning (3 x hours, 3 days a week) the other is in our little convenience store, (job not offically advertised, very close friend works there, shop wil be closing for re-fit then will be taking on more staff, confirmed by manager when handed in application form).
The cleaning one location is approx 8miles each way (so will have to use our car) the shop one is 5 min walk from home.
Hubby and i have been discussing giving up one of the cars, we have one each. He has an old banger (which is on it's last legs) for commuting to work while i have the family car. I used to work 3 days a week approx 3-4 hours a day but my boss has emigrated so not had work for approx 4 months. So i only really use my car to go shopping or visit family/gallavanting!
Anyway after deciding to only have the one car (which hubby would use for work) then i will have use of it when he comes home in eve/weekends etc, i have been offered the cleaning job, like i say is 3xhours a day, 3 times a week, i am due to start tomorrow.
I will only have use of my car for about the next 6 weeks aprox (til tax runs out on 2nd car then it will be scrapped).
Should i take this job on knowing that in a few weeks i wont have transport to get there or phone lady today and explain the position i now find myself in.
They thing is for what i will be earning, it's not worth keeping a second car on the road (wont be cost effective). Also if the other job was to materialise i would pick that one as it's so close to home.
BUT if the other job doesn't come up then i wont have a job, but i wont have the running expenses of 2 cars.
I hope that makes sense!!!!
Any views, what would you do in my situation?

do the job for next 6wks and explain to the lady after a couple of weeks being there that your other car is dying and wont be buying a second one but you could clean in the evenings when husband home or look into public transport0

The job is for set hours (was origanilly from 8 til 11, but as i have children to get to school the hours have been changed to 8.30am to 11.30), public transport is not an option and i wouldnt be able to get there by the required time.My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0

I guess I would probably do the cleaning job and wait and see what materialises with the other job. Then go from there. Employers understand that sometimes things happen that are outside our control - such as having to get rid of a car due to finances or whatever. Good luck!MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

I wouldn't be depending on a job in retail at the minute - sorry0

Personally I would speak to the cleaning boss and say you can only do it for six weeks and is that OK. I prefer to be honest with people and not mess them around, and taking it then ditching it will cause them problems. They may be prepared to change the hours anyway, you don;t know till you ask. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Employment board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Not my intention! and employment board can be quite lively too.
FWIW, I would start the cleaning job, but say that I might not be able to do it for very many weeks because of transport situation changing, and if I then got the other job give as much notice as possible. That way the cleaning boss has as much chance as possible to find a replacement.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
i would do the cleaning job but say about the car ,she might have some one too car share will you . best to be honest with her , other job might not even come up ,good luck.the truth is out there ... on these pages !!
