Tesco's

Hi Everyone,

Can someone explain to me why I can't use my Co-op Electron Card to get my groceries from Tesco's over the Internet? Sainsburys & Asda accept electron why not Tesco's?

They say it's because electron cards are issued to under 18's and you can buy alcohol with your shopping. M&S are the same, even if you're just ordering clothes

    It's a joke isnt it.
I have got one of those prepaid cards for use online now because it's getting difficult to do the shopping and carry it back.

  • I have a pre-paid Paypal card which is probably OK to use for Tesco.
I am not sure about using mine at the moment because one of my debts is a Paypal
credit card ! I have a Co-op Cashminder card which I believe is Electron so will have a look for another pre payment card, think there are are quite a few around.
I saw one called Cashplus which is a Mastercard, some of them charge so will have to study them first !

Have done since I went BR which was June 2008 :D Seriously pleased, and means I don't "do" Tesco's anymore

I read somewhere that if you order and put down Visa Debit then it can be used but I've not tried it and can't confirm but it might be worth a try?

I had a bit of an email "row" about this with Tesco

Their reasoning was, as peachyprice said, because of selling alcohol and the fact that electron can be issued to under 18s. However...... my counter argument to that was - what about Solo? They accept that and that TOO can be given to under 18s. They replied saying they "understood my frustration" (hmmmmm) but that there were no plans to change their policy any time soon (completely ignoring my point re Solo cards)

When I've needed to buy things on-line (not that often), and Visa Electron wasnt an option, I've just clicked on the Visa option, and the payments seems to go through?

Crazy isn't it Scarlett, John Lewis are the same, but took my 13yo's solo card on an alcohol purchase (I bought it, not him!)
