  • My parents have both recently retired although they are both more active than I am!
My Dad has always done all of the cooking, all from scratch. They have hardly any rubbish because they recycle everything, including leftovers!
There are always loads of soups, casseroles, lasagne, spag bol in the freezer as he batch cooks.
What is not used one day is the next days lunch, padded out with pots, rice etc.
He also makes his own wine which costs about 60p per bottle and he is always giving me a "carry out" which saves me money as well.
He does hoard things which drives my Mam mad but if you need a bit of wood, a piece of flex, hooks, lamps .........ask Dad before you buy. There is always something that will fit the bill.
Just as well since Woolies have shut!
He collects any scrap metal he finds lying around when they walk the dogs and weighs it in at the scrapyard to earn a bit cash and save the plkanet!
I try to be like them. Home cooking and baking, cleaning with vinegar or "Blue Flash" or shop buoght equivalent.(Watered down in a squirty bottle- of course)
I learned so much from my parents!
    They are FAB!!!!
Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j
Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile

A little bit when they were younger and we were children, but that went when they became more affluent. They have turned back to it in a small way in recent years, shopping at our local market again, but that is about quality rather than the cost.

IL's who are carp with money are a lot more OS, so for them I'd say in both cases they were only OS cos they had to be, just my parents became wealthier and didn't continue with it when they no longer needed to.

My grandmother's who both lived thru WW2 are not OS now as they say 'they had enough of that during the war'
