Get in touch with your local children's information service (should be on your council website) and the National Childminding Association (who will probably also have a local group), they will be able to tell you everything. I used to work for a children's information service (until 2003) and there was a lot of support to encourage people into the various types of childcare, hopefully that still happens.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Ofsted. They register and inspect childminders.

I believe it is a very long winded process, criminal record checks on you and your family, medical reports, safety inspections of your home etc etc

Then you have H&S, first aid and not sure if you need to sit some sort of examinations?

I've only heard say so, im not a childminder.
  • Hi I work in the Childcare department in a local authority. To become a registered childminder you will need to contact the 'early years' team at your local council. They will guide you through the process. You will need to register with ofsted but the council will provide those forms for you. They will also go through the rest of the process. You will need to undertake pediatric first aid and the foundation course for EYFS. Again your council should set these up for you. You may also be eligible for a childminding start up grant. Hope this helps.
