RMA - outrageous behaviour!

Hi,

I have defaulted on all of my CC's (redundant, can't find a job etc) and am working with them all to resolve the issue. Offering a token £1.00 payment until my circumstances change, god knows when that will be but fingers crossed!

Today I received a letter from RMA (Risk Management Alternatives) who have taken over my Amex account. The balance owed is £2.6k and RMa have decided to add a 'file referral fee' of £469.09 to the account...for sending one letter!

This is an outrage and surely can't be legal? I have just written back to them offering the standard £1.00 and told them they can poke the £469.09 fee, I will not pay it under any circumstances. I don't mind paying a nominal admin fee but £470 for a letter and stamp...I don't think so!

I really don't understand the mentality of these people, I can't meet the payments on the debt, but they think adding nearly £500 will encourage may to pay more...are they thick or is it me???

Anyone else had the same problem?

Cheers

Go to www.oft.gov.uk have a look at the ( downloadable ) Guidelines on Debt Collection......read Section 2.9 and 2.10, particularly sub sections a,d and e.
then report them to the OFT....its free and confidential.
Get a Complaint Reference, tell RMA!

I would write to them and ask them to confirm the figure, if it's correct then report them without telling them.

As it stands now, they could always say it was a mistake, i.e typing error etc., etc., that's why you need them to confirm the figure.
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional
  • Thanks guys...makes for interesting reading.

I will contact them and ask them to confirm the fee...then of to the OFT!

    Cheers
