Oscar Wilde did say that the protagonist of every debut novel portrays the author as either Christ or Faust. So you're !!!!!!ed for half of all first novels if you have no knowledge of RS ;)

I'm struggling to think of specific examples of the top of my head, but I'm seeing very clearly a painting by Salvador Dali of the crucifixion.

Bach wrote all his music specifically to glorify God, Liszt believed that music was the voice of God. Many of the major composers indeed wrote Requiems, notably Mozart and Verdi, all the others with few exceptions wrote Masses.

All literature is influenced by religion somehow, the King James Bible changed English fundamentally, going a long way to standardizing it. You'll find biblical references in all great literature, Brontes, Shakespeare, Dan Brown ;)

History... since everyone until the Enlightenment was religious with very very few exceptions you can't really avoid it.

    Plenty of stuff!

Religion, then, should be taught in History lessons. I take issue with the ritual brainwashing forced upon the poor children. Teaching a religious book as if it were an unfalsifiable historical document is outrageous. Dawkins all the way!

This is an emotive issue so I will also add to this the fact that I understand the contrary view, though happen to disagree with it.

I've never known any religious text to be taught like that, and it wasn't that long since I was in school. Since, according to wikipedia at least, 11.9% of the world identify as non-religious and only 2.3% as atheists, it's hardly something that's been confined to history, is it?

But this is all rather off topic.

On topic, I'd have thought it's a 'no-brainer', as the saying goes.

I cannot believe only 2.3% of the world identify themselves as atheists. Mind you, I remember hearing about a poll questioning religious belief in the UK. More than half 'don't believe in God', yet 70% identify themselves as Christian!!

Haha I can believe that. Reminds me of what Richie says in that episode of Bottom 'Got to church? I'm Church of England, I don't have to go.'
