  • I use empty biscuit tins (large ones you get at christmas...) to keep things together in my cupboard (ie all my baking stuff etc). Would that work for your pantry shelves?

I agree on the before and after pics!

I just put like stuff together - packets, tea/coffee/sugar/other drinkable things, baking/spices/herbs, tins, condiments etc, bottles together, etc but then I don't have a big pantry so I split it into different cupboards.

Although I don't have a pantry I organise my stores like this:

Baking cupboard (above my worktop)- large plastic ice cream tubs (4litres) with all my flours, oats and sugar. Other stuff like cocoa, golden syrup, coconut, chocolate, peel and so on also in here, plus a plastic tray holding baking powder, yeast, bicarb and spices used frequently in baking and a small tub of salt.

    cupboard 1

top shelf- pasta, rices, barley, couscous, popcorn plus other grains

middle shelf -dried pulses, nuts, seeds, dried fruit

bottom shelf - jars and bottles (mustard, honey, soy sauce etc), stock powder. I keep my hm jams & jellies in the fridge.

    cupboard 2

    drawer -spices

top shelf -tins, unopened bags of flour (always have backups if you love to bake)

bottom shelf -tea, coffee, cartons of juice, the biscuit tin (containing Ryvitas and oatcakes), the cake tin (containing muffins/hm biscuits/cake), dried milk and UHT milk for yogurt making.

Small cupboard next to cooker -culinary alcohol, oils, vinegar and salt

garage -sack of spuds, basket of onions, bags of apples, jars of unopened homemade preserves

    Hi artichoke,

There are lots of tips on this thread that should help:

    Question on organization of cupboards

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I also group stuff together like
    cereals boxes,
    tea, coffee, hot choc
    baking ingredients
    pasta
    spices
    tins
    jars
    packets etc

I wish everything was in the same size box so it all looked neat and tidy but I think storing it all in baskets may work so you just pull out the basket you need. I may do this after we have had our extension done with my all new pantry.

PS whats the difference between a pantry and a larder?

my kitchen is basically organised the same way as Thriftlady's:

    - shelf for herbs and spices
    - shelf for cooking oil, balsamic vinegar and stuff i dont use that often eg tamarind
    - shelf for savoury tins and pasta
    - shelf for baking stuff and sweet tins
    - shelf for biscuits, buns etc
    - shelf for cereal (under worktop)
    - shelf for spuds, carrots & onions (under worktop)
    - shelf for booze (under worktop)
