Comet free 3G data card!!

hi i was in comet the other day looking at their laptops ( because i need one for uni) and noticed that they were giving a free 3g vodafone payasyougo data card with every purchase of a laptop ( data card retails at £199!!), the best thing is that you get free £20 credit on it to start you off and as far as i know there is no minimum contract aswell!!!

if you bought the cheapest laptop say for £599 and you got the free data card worth £199, then decided to flog the data card for £199 in your local paper (bargain pages) the the laptop would work out to only cost you somthing like £400 a proper bargain!!

i have just ordered one from their site, hope this this helps someone else!!

Can't you pick these cards up a lot cheaper than £199 though?...I'm sure they were on this forum at around the £50...I could be wrong though...prepared to be shot down!!

However offer also on with http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Vodafone_Offer/page.asp

    Some prices not too bad.
  • pepperoni are you sure the payasyou go 3G data cards were for £50??? because as far as i know vodafone dont even do them on payasyou go!!! and on contract they are very expensive too!!! thats why i have posted it on the 'Grabit now board'
  • Don't get too excited - they are going on eBay for about £50.

It probably IS a pay-as-you-use one, as that's what PC World have been giving away with a lot of their laptops recently.

Before mine arrived I asked staff at a Vodafone shop what it was. They said Vodafone no longer did pay-as-you-use datacards but that it was probably a special tariff.

I've got it now and it is indeed a pay-as-you-use one. It's not like a pay-and-go mobile phone in the sense that what you do is use whatever you want and pay afterwards. However, it's not the same as a contract phone either as there's no line rental. You only pay for what you use.

Where 3G is unavailable it switches to the slower GPRS connection.
This isn't quite as good but at least it keeps you online in dire circumstances.
  • This offer is open to purchases from most retailers - you do not need to buy your laptop from Comet. I certainly did not (https://www.laptopmegastore.co.uk) All you do is phone the Vodafone number and find out beforehand if your purchase is included if bought from the retailer where you plan to buy your card from or have already bought it from.

Laptops direct and Staples and PCWorld and Misco and savastore are a few that are involved. The offer is open to most Centrino laptops and has been extended to include almost any laptop so do check with a phone call ie. Pentium 4's + others. Although I understand you have to claim within 30 days of purchase. Comes with £20 credit.

    The number is: 0870 0712840 M-F 9:00am - 5:30pm available on contract OR Pay-As-You-Use basis.

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/asp/vodafone-acer-bundle.htm for more info but actually applies to most retailers.

As I understand it in the T&C's, you have to registered your bank details whether its a contract or payg card u wanted.

I recently bought two laptops and wont be using to browse the net on the go, think it wont be cheap anyway. So I have not made a claim for those cards.

You have to register your bank details so that Vodafone can bill you.

As I said above, you pay for what you use. It's not a pay-as-you-go card in the sense that you don't top it up etc.

Basically, if you don't use it (or only use the free tester allowance), you pay nothing. This kind of tariff would suit anyone who only wants to use this card to get online once in a while, eg when they're stuck away from their home/office internet connections.

If you're a heavy user, chances are you'd be better off with a contract one that has an inclusive monthly allowance.
