My point is this - we are all free to choose our friends and given the personality traits necessary to be a Bailiff I wouldn't have one as a friend of mine, however desperate. I don't suppose Robert will lose any sleep over this, and neither will I.

Personally, I wouldn't have someone who made wild assumptions about a person based on his/her occupation as a friend.

So protecting the assets of banks and ultimately the population at large (other mortgage holders) is not an honourable profession.
    It is in my book.

I think you'll find I've already acknowledged that Bailiffs are necessary. "Honourable" ? Not in my book. "Profession" ? Not even close !

My brother is in the army.
You could say he gets paid to kill people.
But I'd say he get's paid to protect people.
Lots of army bods get huge satisfaction from their jobs despite killing others and witnessing death because they believe that what they do generally brings safety and peace.

To compare your brother's job to that of a bailiff is, quite frankly, insulting your brother. Your brother is a highly trained professional that risks his own life defending our country's interest. Although his job may involve delibertately killing somebody, there are strict rules of engagement before doing so, failure to comply with which he'd find himself in prison for murder.

This doesn't make the [Bailiff] job bad and you shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush.

    I don't and I think you've missed my point.

What does that have to do with it? if you had a car and didn't keep up the payments they would take that away.........Why do u think people should "buy" and not pay?

Surely that would only occur under a HP agreement. If it were purchased using a personal loan, you would still keep the car but be pursued through the courts.

there are strict rules of engagement before doing so

"Abu Ghraib" is what springs to mind right now.

You are fully entitled to your opinions, but I think you are highly predujiced if you think you can categorise someone's personally traits by their occupation.

    You mean like bailiffs?

    I didn't.
It was a response to the comment that soldiers have "strict rules of engagement".

I don't tar everyone with the same brush.
I am sure there are good and bad balliffs and soldiers, but both do a useful job to society.

On that at least I think we can agree.

I have 3 (ex) army officer friends. I have no Bailiff friends. My choice.

    Ok, I'll take the bait.

The type of person that has no qualms in making peoples lives more miserable than they were before they knocked on their door. The type of person to which job satisfaction just doesn't feature. The type of person that accepts receiving and giving verbal and sometimes physical abuse as part of the job. I could go on....but I'm sure you'll get my drift.

Bailiffs are the last line in debt recovery, they are necessary. But that wasn't my point. My point is this - we are all free to choose our friends and given the personality traits necessary to be a Bailiff I wouldn't have one as a friend of mine, however desperate. You're quite right about one thing at least, I don't lose sleep over the opinions of bigots.

I don't recognise myself nor 99% of the people I worked with when I was a bailiff in your description of one, but I suppose you won't let a little thing like that change your mind.

Proper Bailiffs, not these credit card collecting clowns, are extremely helpful and will do as much as is possible to help you avoid repossesion/jail. They really are misrepresented by these !!!!ing oafs from assorted debt collection agencies. Its those !!!!ers that need a hiding.

Repossession is done by court officers, not private bailiffs, as you say Darth. Different kettle of fish entirely. Not a particularly nioce job, but it's got to be done.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
