I got a voucher from co-op when I complained and returned a punnet of strawberries that had a v small snail in it.
I didn't mind giving my details for that!
Can completely understand trying to deter shoplifters, but, as LittleVoice said, the theif would have to be honest. That's an oxymoron if ever heard one!0 -

The shops ask you for your name, house number and road/ postcode to prevent fraud.
Some regular returners are shoplifters and will use the same name or variations of it and their address in different branches of the same stores.
The shops loss prevention officers can then flag up these people to prevent them being given a refund/ credit vouchers.0
