    What normally happens is that when you start a job without a P45, a P46 is filled in.
    Your employer should then give you an emergency code 603L M1 which is a non cumulative code..
    ..everything Ok so far...

    then your employer sends the info to the tax office who issue the 'proper code' .. so I would suggest you wait until the Jan salary comes through .. if the code isn't changed then phone up the tax office and see what's happening.

    Your correct code, assuming you have no benefits in kind (company car, health insurance ), should be 603L (without M1)

    Ok thanks Clapton and MrsE, i will look out for the tax code change in my next pay slip and will get onto the tax office if there are any problems.
