Bathroom suite nightmare

Hiya, I hope I'm posting on the right bit here!!

I recently bought an entire Bathroom suite through Travis Perkins (WC, sink, bath, bath panel, end panel and shower screen) I chose them from a QX Bathroom solutions catalogue shown to me by the Travis Perkins bathroom salesman.

The bath suite came and was plumbed in by my plumber. However although the bath panel fits the bath the end panel does not.

I recontacted Travis Perkins who contacted their supplier who sent two more end panels but neither fit.

Travis Perkins then told me that their supplier had told them that the manufacturers had "mocked up" the end panel for the picture in the catalogue and the end panel I have bought and paid for does not exist.

I am aware that this would be covered by the sale of goods act 1979 (Not as described, not fit for the job) however Travis Perkins... who I paid for the suite are now trying to wash their hands of me.... basically it's my problem.... is this correct or do they have to shoulder some of the responsibility to help me here as I have bought the goods from them??

Thanks

:o

It is Travis Perkins problem assuming you purchased these as a retail customer, you are correct about the sale of goods act, I understand that the salesman sold you the product and that he has stated that the items you have are correct (before purchase) to do exactly as you want and according to the illistration you were shown?

If so, then it can be stated that the good are not fit for the purpose, and you should 'reject the goods' formally. Normally I would say speak to the branch manager and state you are rejecting the goods, if that gets you nowhere then work up the chain of command, and reinforce this by letter. Don't get fobbed off with it's the suppliers problem as it is not. It might be worth speaking to them as it is their brochure that is misleading and they might be able to fix the problem quicker. Check the sale brochure to ensure that there is no legal speak like 'for illistration only' on the pictures.

Try those options first and then come back if thats goes nowhere
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
