Help with working out SOA please

  • Does it help to look at it from this perspective: She earns £1100 per month, out of this she has to pay her loan, credit cards, travel to work, shoes!, make-up, lunch at work, and anything else she wants to buy for helself (Forget the mortgage it's a shared expense regardless). Whatever is left is what you put on your forms as her contribution.

I think you're getting confused because the mortgage is in her name and comes from her account, but for the purpose of this exercise pretend in your mind it's in both your names and all your money goes into one account.

Ok, it is starting to make sense, thanks for your patience with me. Will the OR question it if I say she is only contributing £450 a month though. Can he say she isn't contributing enough? After working it all out and taking away what she spends £450 is about right.

Billy, you haven't put anything down for school dinners, and any activities your son does, like swimming etc.

No, she has her own committments, the OR cannot expect her own bills to go unpaid.

I make him a lunch every night. Will the OR ask for a receipt from the school?

He may be going back on them anyway, he isn't eating his lunches!!

Hi Billy, the OR cannot comment on your OH's contribution at all. For all he knows that may be her entire income, as he has no access to her bank or wage statements. That amount looks good! CBx
