Hi everyone , I have been looking at older threads and its been mentioned a few times that if you have an old account ie :been cleared and no longer used that I should apply to have it removed from my credit file.
I have loads of old, no longer active things on my file and just thought it would look good that I no longer have anything owing on them.
Or am I right in thinking they take the whole amount of credit available to you into consideration, even though its not being used.
My credit report came back as excellent because We always met our payments, even though getting into more debt along the way.
Should I now get them to remove the inactive accounts from my history or not.
thanks .
Jessie

Hi Jessie,
you won't be able to get old accounts removed for your credit files but if you ring the companies concerned you can close an account this will then appear as a settled account on your credit report therefore new lenders will see a reduced available credit for you.

You can't get them physically removed. They will only be removed after 6 years of being settled! Think thats how long it is anyway!
What you should do is close the accounts of all the cards with zero balances! This makes you look better to potential lenders as you have less credit therefore less potential debt!
Just phone the companies up and say you want the account closed and ask for a letter of confirmation. Just cutting them up is no good!
